Bolyar Chess is probably not authentic! The material on the following link is really created by me. The author has without permission copied all my material on Bolyar Chess; text, images, including the program which he claims to have created himself. I have now removed Bolyar Chess from my own site because I have come to the conclusion that it's not an authentic historical variant. My initial information came from this web site, to which I duly linked from my own Bolyar page. I made a better presentation of the game. Now his page is useless as a reference link because it now only contains my own work. Most intriguingly, there was earlier a section about how he happened upon the material in a bookshop in London, and there was mention of the game in old letters, etc. Curiously, this description is now gone. On this Bulgarian site there has now appeared another historical variant, namely "Abagoren Chess". But, in this case as well, there are no references in the Encyclopedia of Chess Variants or anywhere else, as far as I know. The author does not give any references.

Dr Stefan Sergiev (head of the Bulgarian Chess Federation) released a book in 2010 "On the Beginning of Chess in Bulgaria". It very clearly shows pictures of both Bolyar & Abagoren Chess on the front cover. I do not read Bulgarian and have not read the book. I have only seen it advertised on the internet. However if these games are mentioned by the head of the Bulgarian chess federation then then question of the authenticity of these two games must at least remain open.

ZOG WILL BE YANKED IN FEB 2015 -> the ZOG team broke up -> no re-newal of the ZOG contract -> you may load all the zrf's if you want -> IBM ThinkPad for portable tabletpad zrf's -> no new next-gen ZOG after that.

Technologically better ZOG-type same principles of online games at

(1) PLAYOK.com (2) 81 DOJO.com (3) ARIMAA.com (4) I G GAMECENTER.com (5) ANCIENTCHESS.com

Technologically better online ZOG-types of same principles of games are apps for APPLE iOS & ANDROID.

There is no evidence that the ZOG team broke up, nor that there will be no renewal of the domain. Mr Nelson has tried these scare tactics to spam his sites before, including posting this misinformation to Wikipedia, where one of the Zillions team specifically removed the misinformation.

Does anyone know if it's still possible to purchase Z on this site? The "store" still exists, but will they still send you a CD, or is the only option to purchase the unlock key? If so, does that option still work?

I used my unlock key late last year when I had to get a new computer. It was quite successful, and I am still able to play Bolyar Chess & Abagoren Chess on my computer (note attempt to get back to original topic for this thread).

The unlock key that you purchased does not use an activation server and thus should be good forever once you purchased it. What I am curious about is whether or not it's possible to purchase a new unlock key from this site.
