"The Boardgame Mandala" Abstract: in the evolution of game diagrams and rules boardgames have come to mirror not only cultural aspects but also the transformations in the collective psyche. In the historical perspective the boardgame is a collective effort, and therefore it portrays the collective psyche in the form of mandala shapes pertaining to the whole numbers, such as three and four. The symbolic values of the different geometries and numbers are recurrent themes in cultural history, and denote different stages in the progression of consciousness. In particular, the boardgame is understood as an equivalent of the vessel in medieval alchemy. Keywords: mandala, quaternity, trinitarian, Self, alchemy, sacred game, psychic structure. Somehow I missed this posting... Very nice page. I like how it highlights both the cultural and artform aspect of boardgames. -- Greg |

Mandala game by Karl Scherer free to download Hi everybody, I searched the internet and when I couldn't find a Mandala-drawing program on the net I created my own. It is written in Basic4GL. Now it is on my web pages free for you to download. (http://karl.kiwi.gen.nz/swindex1.html) Warning: does not run on my laptop, so it might not run on yours either; it needs an auxiliary graphics buffer, so running on a PC should not be a problem. If someone is a wizzard in Basic4GL (great programming environment,is seems!) and not such a bloody beginner like me, feel free to improve it (of course we all would like then to see the improved version mentioned here). Cheers, Karl |
