I needed to repurchase the unlock key, however the store has gone 404. "https://pay1.plugnpay.com/payment/zillionspay.cgi" How can I replace my key? |

I was basically able to manually purchase an unlock key by emailing the developers. http://www.zillions-of-games.com/whoarewe.html It took a number of weeks before it arrived but when I tried it the key worked fine. Mark Lefler (mjlef@hotmail.com) responded with the key and Ed van Zon (ed@mindsports.com) and Jeff Mallett (metamorphy@gmail.com) were CC'ed. I sent $8.33 to each email address via PayPal. So when Lefler responded on January 18th he said that manual processing of payments could be possible if there aren't too many orders. He mentioned though that it would be easier for people to send the payment to just one email address. He said that they can work out a system and post to the forum when that is decided upon. Thanks for the help. I had already gotten a key from Mark Lefler at his Komodo Chess address. |

Just want to also mention on this thread that PayPal will arbitrate transactions between buyers and sellers if there is any issue: https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/security/resolve-disputes |

I thought I'd drop a note by here that as of today, Aug 30, 2025, purchasing does work. It might take slightly longer than some newer online services, but as I recall it's comparable to how things used to be back in the early days of the internet. I sent my payment via PayPal yesterday evening, and Mr. van Zon sent my license code at about 1 AM this morning (Central time). I haven't tested networking, but local play seems to work great on Linux via Wine. External analysis says that on my machine, the max-strength chess AI, with 5 seconds per move and minimal variation, is comparable to Chess.com's Komodo, set at "Grandmaster" (2600). I expect this isn't the strength level the program played at when it first came out. It is funny that time can significantly impact the performance and expected rating of the software. If I get dissatisfied with this, CPU limiting tools can be used to slow things down and make it work more like it would have in 2000. Now, at the risk of sounding depressing, life is fleeting. This software has already been available for a really long time, over 25 years. The world is a volatile place. Who can know how much longer it can be obtained, or how much longer the authors will be able to enjoy the fruits of their labours? If you've ever thought about buying this and showing your support, I say that now is the time, while everybody is still here and it can be done. |

Just so you know, I have a copy of the original Zillions source code (under licence), and I have released a version of it with a Unity player here: http://www.polyomino.com/amzplayer/. |
