Can you move your opponents pieces? Can you do this by flipping them, then moving them, or moving then flipping? Do you need to cascade in the middle? Cheers JK jk@bcs.org.uk |

You can define all pieces as neutral with a move-type "neutral-move." Then use the turn order to specify (White neutral-move) (Black neutral-move). This works only if both players can always move any piece on the board. If there is one special piece that can be moved by the opponent, take a look at the zrf for Neutral King Chess at www.chessvariants.com. The King on the board is neutral. Each player is given a special off-board piece called the Spider King that scans the board for the real King and moves it by chaning the "from" square. This method should also work for moving an enemy piece. |

Of course it depends what you are trying to do, but Zillions does allow you to specify which side's pieces to move in the turn-order. For example, if one of the turns is for the white side to move the black side's pieces, then that turn is denoted as: (turn-order ... (white black) ...) |

I didn't realise that you could use a colour instead of a piece-type in the turn-order syntax. However, I don't think that helps me. In certain circumstances, I am trying to 'drop' a column by moving all pieces down one, whatever the colour, I have tried doing this as an intermediary Neutral? as well as during the 2 player's moves - each time I hit a wall! I tried 'flip flip' to turn a piece from its existing state, through the neutral colour to the 'other' one, but only on flip is allowed. I can move a piece using add-partial and do a flip each move which works ok, but I need to know where to move it back to! I still have more ideas left, but will run out soon! Cheers for the help JK |

I do not know whether the following helps you, but Zillions definitely allows more than one "flip", in contrast to what you claim to be true. I have used "flip flip" in several games. (Ducado etc) .......... I had the problem quite often to move all sorts of pieces on the board. I usually solve it by letting the player make a simple drop or "key" move and then let an invisible ("random" player) ?Rand execute the rest. I cannot see any reason why this should not work in your case. Cheers, Karl |
