Karl, Nice job on Halloween Mania. I like the way the number of pieces that drop after a turn is impacted by the number of empty rows at the top of the play area. Limiting piece drops to occupied columns and filling in gaps from the lowest row with a gap and building up are nice ways to channel the game towards an end and avoid a drawn out end game. The level of challenge is well tuned. I tried all the variants and it seems that if I can survive the first 6 to 8 moves the game is winnable, then it is just a matter of doing so in as few turns as possible. It is certainly possible for a winnable setup to turn into a run away loss. I really got zinged when I reduced a game to two columns four rows high. That narrow a remaining play field builds back up fast! The game, even at the easiest level, is a little to difficult for my daughters (ages 8 and 10). I am thinking about tinkering with your zrf file so that the top three or four rows remain empty. That should make all setups winnable with the issue being how many turns did it take to empty the board. Alternatively I might reduce the number of pieces dropped. |

Hi Keith, Thanks for your nice feedback. After reading your comments I have added 2 easier levels to "Halloween Mania", called 'Pumpkin'. Hope your daughter likes it. Get it next weekend from the Zillions website or download now from http://karl.kiwi.gen.nz . Cheers, Karl |
