In my game pawns can only promote to off-board pieces. Each side starts the game with one off-board piece, and other pieces are added to this collection as they are captured. I was thinking it would be nice if all of the off-board pieces that are available for promotion could be seen to the side of the chess board during the game. Is there an easy way to do that? Thanks in advance for any help. William Butler |

I think your board graphic should contain both an on board area and one or more "off board" areas. I'll call the latter the "tray". Define positions for both areas. Initially, the tray has one piece. When a piece is captured, add it to an empty position on the tray. I think "Prince Chess" does something similar. -- Greg |

For that matter, traditional Shogi (Japanese chess) requires this, and I know that there are implementations of that in ZoG. Ah, file available via the chessvariants.com site. Shogi |

My "Cannibal Chess" and "Bank Chess" do that. Karl |
