I am working on a board game (54-9)that I invented. It has playing pieces resembling a cube. There are nine red cubes and nine blue cubes. I have designed the graphics with the numbers from 6 to 1 showing. At the beginning of the game I want to start the graphic pieces with the value of six and each time that they are captured they would be replaced with the next lowest value graphic until it reaches the lowest number possible of 1. When it reaches 1 it would then stay at that value. How can I impliment this action. |

Have you tried piece-attributes? I would suggest you give each piece six attributes that correspond to one of the six possible values. |

Hello Karl I am a novice to Zillions of Games. I have downloaded everything that I could find pertaining to games made with the software. I have looked at a lot of the ZRF files. I am still waiting for my unlock key to arrive. In my game capturing is custodial. When pieces are captured they are removed from the board and will appear in temporary boxes off the playing board. and their value will change to the next lowest value. (6-5-4-3-2-1 and then stay at 1. Up to three opponents pieces can be captured on a single move) The owner of the captured pieces must play one of the pieces still on the board if there is a legal move, then after that and before the opponent's turn, replaces the down-valued pieces to vacant starting space/s of it's color on the outer perimeter of the board. The exception would be if there were no legal move on the board and then one of the captured pieces could be moved. Then the opponent moves. I am also going to try developing this game with the GameMaker development tool for producing stand alone games. GameMaker was not geared for strategy board games but it is possible that I may be able to develop AI using its own GameMaker Language,or I may be able to convert or adapt some ZRF code. In 1972 my old company Alto Corp. introduced 10 games I invented at the New York Toy Fair. I am trying to convert these and others I invented into computer versions. Hello Alex, Welcome to Zillions. The game you have in mind sounds fairly sophisticated. Since the pieces need to change graphically for the player what about using change type? For example, a "soldier" piece would actually be six pieces: soldier6, soldier5, soldier4 etc. As part of the capturing sequence a series of nested if statements would test and change a soldier6 to a soldier5 etc. |

Hello Keith, Thank you for the welcome. Let me explain the concept of the game. When I invented this game and several different variations of it. I designed several playing boards and the playing pieces were dice instead of pawns. The dice were placed on the boards in specified starting spaces and both players (red & Blue) started with the value of six showing face up. When captured and replaced back on the starting spaces on the board, the dice were flipped to the next lowest value, (6-5-4-3-2-1, and then they stay at 1 if the game hasn't ended) The player who gets the winning configuration to end the game, then totals the value of the dice. The object is to not only win the game, but try and get the highest dice total in a game. In other words if each player starts the game with nine dice the total value is "54" if a player wins the game and never had a cube captured his winning total would be "54", however that is almost impossible, and the lowest number of the nine dice would be "9". The name of the different variations of the game are "54-9", "48-8", "42-7" and "36-6". I have already designed the graphics for all the representation of both the boards and the sprites/objects for the playing pieces.
