i'm curious if anyone's ever thought of compiling a "dictionary" of pieces by their zrf definitions yet? Something akin to the Piececlopedia on the CVP's, but solely maintaining those more "common", or even exotic piece definitions, and the different names many of them use. Perhaps, this section could maintain something like that (or a Yahoo! ZoG group maybe?). It could be divided into various headings (leapers, sliders, royalty, etc.), and expanded by the members themselves forwarding the script for their own successfully designed/tested pieces. Anyone else think this would be a useful resource? Is it plausible? Because we're just dealing in textual entries, would the demands for space be all that much on the files section if it continued to grow?
My knowledge of all things code-ish is, in a word, nonexistent, so i gladly welcome any opinions on this.

A couple notes:
* In order to do this you need to make some assumptions about the way the board is defined, e.g. what directions exist. A dictionary that is coded in the Zillions language could be "include"d directly by games that meet these assumptions
* A couple dozen of the most common chess variant pieces can already be found in the main game of the Fairy Chess ZRF that comes with Zillions. |

i would think starting with the assumption of a board's being the standard ortho-chess would be fairly universal. And any changes that need to be made to account for specific boards would be easier to add in, than to have to create from scratch. Again, that's in most, but not all, cases i would imagine.
U're right though, in that the dictionary already exhists pretty much. The only thing a dedicated file/repository gives U is a resource that wouldn't have to be "extracted" from specific zrf's each time. And maybe an even more accessable tool for rookies and the scriptually-impared
(like me :-D). Also as a record of inventors/exhisting pieces (people should be credited for their work afterall) it would be good for the variant community to have this kind of archive, IMHO. Again, it's just food for thought.
By the way, have we thanked U guys again lately? ZoG is still one of the coolest things since central air and popsicles.
Off topic -- How're your KC experiences progressing? Any good ideas that might translate into future ZoG goodness?
