Dear Messrs Price and Patterson (and anyone else interested), I am trying to develop my game Judtho using the Zillions engine and I found that some of the features in your excellent games are similar to some of the aspects of Judtho: From Forchess, the aspects of friendly pieces and changing ownership upon capture of an opponents' King are similar to important aspects of Judtho. From Drop Chess, the feature of dropping one's pieces into a zone is very similar to Judtho. I have already taken the liberty of adapting some of your code to produce a version of Judtho which is playable but lacks some essential features. I have done this only on my own PC and for my personal use only. I should add that a lot of the code I have developed myself but I am stuck as to how to write code to make a proper version of Judtho. The features of the game that I have developed are as follows: 1. 12 x 12 board with four coloured sets of pieces and a new piece, the Princess. 2. Pieces drop into their respective areas in turns, then the pieces' attributes are set using one of two "Begin" pieces, then the Kings are added, the attributes are again set with another "Begin" piece and the game starts. Some of the attributes which are required for a proper version of Judtho are as follows: 1. Check and checkmate are required. Rather than capture of a King to change ownership, it should be checkmate of a King that does this. Also, players should not be allowed to check their partner's Kings or move so that their own King is in check from their partner. 2. When a King is checkmated, the pieces should not change colour but should simply come under the control of the checkmating player. The partner of the checkmating player should become his opponent and become a partner of the remaining player (alliance reversal). Pawns should retain their original direction. There should still be four moves per move sequence. 3. Knights should be able to give either check or immediate checkmate at the player's choice. I would like your permission to post this incomplete version of Judtho on the Zillions site so that people can enjoy it and also hopefully suggestions can be made to make the above improvements. I look forward to your replies, With many thanks, kind regards and a lot of admiration for your excellent games, Rick. |
