hello, i just wanted to ask a couple of questions.
1. is the 'author' of a game the person who made the zrf file? (not inventor)
2. can anyone use 'Alfaerie' style pieces if they make a game or do you need permission (or you just can't)
3. if someone has no knowledge of computer programming, but has an idea for a chess variant, lol, would there be anyone interested in putting together and getting some credit? i know most likely not, but just asking. i love chess, large variants, and have great idea for game which uses normal chess pieces on normal sized board, just having extra knights and bishops and plays very well (as far as i can see, it is highly original and brilliant if i may say so myself hehe).
anyway, just asking, i do have a friend who said he would help, but when he would get round to it god knows he he ... anyway .. thanks for everything in advance.

1. The author of the zrf if usually but not necessarily the inventor of the game. There are many examples of someone scripting the zrf for another.

2. If Alfaerie style pieces means the ones that come with Zillions fairy chess then the answer is yes.

3. I can put together a zrf file for you using normal chess pieces. keith@spiritone.com

^_^ To illustrate both, Doublechess (http://www.chessvariants.org/index/zillions.php?itemid=zDoubleChess) was invented by David Short, but I authored the ZRF file. He didn't want to bother with the coding, so I volunteered. It was educational for me and useful for him. And I've got my name down on the web for one more thing, eh?

sorry i was away on holidays .. ok wow, i didn't expect someone to say they would do it, without seeing the idea he he, ok well i will talk to my friend and see how serious he is and if he can do it, and will get back with what is going on.
the pieces i was asking if i could use for my game are the ones that is used for 'grandchess' that comes with the zip file called 'rvotm-pak1' which can be downloaded at the zillions site, in the games section. 'rvotm' stands for 'recognised variants of the month, this file gives the first 9 variants of the month.

As I stated in an email to you (and am posting here so as to widely disseminate the information) those chess pieces are indeed the AlFaerie pieces. According to the webpage (http://www.chessvariants.com/graphics.dir/alfaerie/
) on Chess Variants, David Howe gives permission to anyone to use them.
