Is there a way to handle piece orientation in Zillions? That is the ability to drop and or turn pieces to a different orientation? I would guess you would need to setup a different piece def for each orientation, but in actuality it would be the same piece. If you are limiting the pieces for instance off the board then how would you program this relationship between the real pieces and the differently oriented ones? |

Hi Matt, have a look at my new game "Harry", where I had to represent each piece of nine pieces in all four rotational positions. A "Turn" move connects these four representations by rotating a piece 90 degrees. Hope that helps. Cheers, Karl |

Thanks, and thanks for the other answer also. I have a follow up question. I've seen in some games where you can use a menu pick to choose between ambiguous choices, for instance dropping a piece. I would like to create a menu pick that is graphical for the piece orientation. Is this possible? Also it would be nice if the menu could be hierarchical, ie. with sub-menus. Alternatively I suppose one could use 2 menus in succession to achieve a similar effect. |

You cannot open windows in Zillions, but you can create menues and submenues. Simply add some buttons at the right border of your board, as I did in many of my games, see DRAW etc. Depending on which button is clicked, you can then display other buttons, thereby creating submenues. Please note there are also other ways to chose tokens that can be rotated. See my games Pento, Nutts, Max, Reptiles, L-Game which use various ways. Cheers, Karl |
