Here are some suggestions for enhancing the grid command. The first one has been made before, but I'm including them all together for completeness.

1. For the sake of making hexagonal boards easier to make with grid, allow multiple sets of offsets with (dimensions ). For example

(dimensions "a/b/c/d/e/f/g/h" (40 40) (40 20))

It would cycle through the multiple offsets serially. In this example, (40 40) would be used for a, c, e, and g, and (40 20) would be used for the others.

2. Allow multiple grid statements for setting up differently shaped areas of the board.

3. Arrange multiple grid statements in a 3D hierarchy. This is not really for making 3D games. It is for dealing with overlap between grids and for using pieces to create terrain. The 3D hierarchy would affect the order in which piece images got refreshed. Lower level grids would be refreshed first, with the top level grid being refreshed last. With two grids that covered the same board space, terrain pieces could be put on a lower level grid, and the normal pieces could move on the top level grid. The hierarchy could be established by the order of grid statements in a ZRF. The first grid statement would be the top level grid, and the last grid would be the bottom level grid.

Each grid would have its own set of directions, and links between spaces on separate grids would have to be set with the links statement.
