This request is probably not useful to most, but here goes. I have used Zillions in the past to create a prototype of a game that I later rewrote in another language. It would be neat to see a perft type function (http://chessprogramming.wikispaces.com/perft) to count leaf nodes, so that one could compare Zillions perft results against one's own perft results, and test for correctness of a move generator function. |

One way to help validate a port of a Zillions program is to have your new program output a record of a game (most likely a self-play game) to the .zsg. If it plays back correctly in your Zillions game (and vice versa), then after many games, that would provide some confidence. I realize this isn't what your asking for, but it seems related to the goal of finding a way to help validate a move generator and it's possible to do without modifying Zillions. Of course, it could be more trouble than it's worth to do it. -- Greg |
