Are there any plans, or would anyone be interested in, porting zillions to the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad? With their touch capabilitiess, and the iPad's large screen, they would be a much better board game platform then the PC, and a zillions app would probably become the iPad's 'killer board game app', since it's so versatile. Since the iPhone/iPad is about as powerful as a PC from 2000 (when zillions 2 was released), computer power would not be an issue. |

Not sure what you mean by "port" as that typically implies that the source code is available which is definitely not the case for Zillions. It would be possible to create something like Zillions from scratch for these smaller platforms, although it would be a huge amount of work. Sadly, I'm not sure how popular such a thing would be as there doesn't seem to be a huge market for the types of games we see posted here. |

The market IS huge. On the iTunes app store, board games have their own section. An app that could read .zrf files and could access zillions database, or even an app that can only play the games that come with zillions, should be very popular. Most board game apps only have a single game on them and are about .99$, so a properly-marketed zillions app which could play hundreds pf games, and would only take 16 MB of space like the PC version, should blow away the competition even if the price is more than 5$. At the moment, though, they're not as popular on the iPhone as they could (the only board game in the games top 25 is tic-tac-to), but once the 10inch iPad is released, that should change. If zillions were still being actively develloped (I'm assuming it's not), they'd probably have already made an app. |

The last development of Zillions was the upgrade from 2.0 to 2.1 in May of 2003. |

Although I've managed to play Zillions, very successfully, on both my iMac ( OSX 10.4.11 ) and Ubuntu 8.10 ( HP lap-top ) both using Wine emulation, I'm not sure how easy it would be to port, as iPhone/Touch/Pad are not allowed to run ANY form of emulation software as part of the Apple Developers SDK agreement. It would have to be written using all Apple's API's. I'd love to be able to play my version of Strato Chess on an iPod Touch though! Is there a way of passing notation to and from Zillion's AI so that it could interface to a true 3D rendered board? |

There is a proper Windows handheld touch device on the market today, don't remember it's name. At least it fits into the pocket in your jacket. Read about it the other day. Zillions should run on it. It's not "hundreds" of games, it's thousands. /Mats |
