Although I have Zillions installed on my F: drive, I've discovered that it will generate bogus "parse error" messages when I attempt to load a rules file if I am low (about 0.3 megabytes available in this case) on diskspace on my C: drive.
If I free up more space on C:, the "parse error" messages go away.
I'd like Zillions to check for the resources it needs and generate a more appropriate error message. I was able to figure out what was wrong after a few minutes, but other users might not be so lucky.
p.s.: How about a separate forum or e-mail address just for bug reports, so this one can concentrate on "desired features"? |

Regarding low disk space on the C drive, it would be possible for Zillions to check your free space when loading a game, but be advised that you're not supposed to get that low. Microsoft tells you that you must keep a significant amount of space free on your Windows drive for temporary files used by both Windows and its running applications. That requirement varies by OS. While Windows 95 needs at least 20 MB of free space, Windows XP will automatically warn you if you get below 200 MB free. Programs like Microsoft Word are known to crash when disk space is low.
Here's some technical info to help you minimize the problem:
HOW TO TELL HOW MUCH TEMPORARY SPACE IS NEEDED
1. Select "Options..." in the View menu to bring up the Options dialog.
2. Click the Authoring tab
3. Click the Statistics button to bring up the Statistics Window
The amount of space needed for reading in this file is shown in the "Preprocessed File Size" field.
## Note: This feature is only available in Zillions of Games 2
The only temporary file that Zillions writes out is the preprocessed file and this happens only when reading in (parsing) a rules file.
CHANGING WHICH DISK IS USED FOR TEMPORARY FILES
Zillions puts temporary files in the directory Windows says is for temporary files. The location is in turn controlled by the TEMP environment variable. You can change this variable to point to a drive with more space. |
