After watching a computer vs. computer game I noticed that the time taken for each move rapidly shrunk as the game wound down. Trying to just observe the moves in real-time became impossible. After setting the Thinking Time (maximum), a Pacing Time (minimum) should also be available. |

I totally agree with your description of the nuisance of this effect, but I do not quite agree with your cure. I suggest (independently or additionally) that Zillions animates (!) any moves done by computer opponents, by random ?-players and by (automatic) CASCADEd moves and drops. This could be triggered by a new menu option "animate computer moves" (or always); and I would like to be able to tune the speed of this animation as well! Last not least: When is the new version of Zillions coming out??? |

As long as Zillions is on its full strength setting and it doesn't see a way of forcing an end-of-game condition in the search, Zillions should take about the time specified as Thinking Time. I'm not aware of a situation where it speeds up as the game progresses. Karl, I don't understand your suggestion; for the computer vs. computer game, how is this different than the Animate Pieces setting in the Options dialog? |

It's not so much that Zillions "speeds up" as it is that, possibly, with fewer legal moves available, less time is required for it's decision. But I never set Zillions to "full" strength. |

Ah, I understand what you mean now. If Zillions is playing at less than full strength, it will only search to a certain depth (ply), even if it has time left over. It will get to this maximum depth more quickly when their are fewer legal moves. If playing on full strength, Zillions will use all its available time (except sometimes when it finds a forced win). |
