In version 1.1.1 the (board ...) statement can only include one (grid ...) statement. Suppose I want to construct a board which has a grid for player A, a grid for player B, and a grid for player C. I want to call (grid ...) three times and use (start-rectangle ...) to tell Zillions where to display them on the screen. Also, instead of having one (image ...) call inside board, I'd like to be able to have three (image ...) calls, one inside each (grid ...) call. |

I just encountered another situation where I need more than one (grid ...) statement. In the hex version of multi-player Pente I'm implementing, I need a hex grid for the playing area, and a square grid for the controls and captures area. Again, each grid has a different board image. |

Why do you think Zillions supports only one grid statement in a board statement? As far as I know, there is nothing preventing you from having multiple grid statements. Maybe nobody has ever tried this before, so you can be the first! Let us know if it works... |

I tried it, and it doesn't work. The second grid statement merely replaces the first one, with Zillions no longer recognizing the coordinates defined in the first grid statement. |

Hello, Maybe we should try to identify and classify the different feature we request: 1) User Interface/behaviour modification. 2) ZRF language look&feel change. 3) ZRF language with kernel effect change. My believe is that type 1 could be done fastly by Zillions Team they just need to know if they want those stuff. Some of the type 2 would be nice, but we don't need Zillion developpement to implement them as we could write a Zillion Pre-Processor that will translate from enhanced Zillion language to real Zillion language. For type 3 it is a lot more difficult, as any change to the AI kernel could introduce bug/strange behaviour. Considering the optimisation inside the kernel and side effect that such change could introduce inside other games... it is thing that require a lot of thinking, testing, time and consideration. Talking about this particular request, it is a type 2, you found work arround (manual definition or script to define the board...). If someone listen to me up there in Zillions developpement... please consider any request of Type 1 if it help user or developper to have fun with Zillions, consider Type 3 if it is safe and provide extended capabilities and consider Type 2 if you have time left and want to please ZRF developper in there search for simpler, cleaner, easyer to understand, debug, explain ZRF files. I might not be the first to notice but http://www.zillions-of-games.com/patches.html contain a new patch 1.3. And one of the new authoring feature is support for multiple grid statement. It is not yet tested by me, but I can not wait to see anyone report about a game that has been simplified using this feature. Patrick S. Duff (Pduff) and Fergus Duniho (Fduniho), you asked for it, now you should show us it is usefull. David GLAUDE glu@who.net http://glu.freeservers.com/zillion.htm |

My game Planes uses two grid statements, using the new feature of Zillions 1.3. I might be the first or one of the first games to do so. Look at the code if you are interested. |
