When I try to load my game (which is a work in progress, complicated, and no doubt buggy), I get the message "Zillions has caused an error in ZILLIONS.EXE. Zillions will now close."

I would like to be able to see how far Zillions got in interpreting my code before it crashed. I'm used to development environments that let you see the program run, line-by-line if desired, or with stops at programmer-set debugging checkpoints.

Absent that, I would at least like the Zillions error message to specify which line in the code is causing a syntax error.

Also, it would be nice to be able to add lines to the code, to output a message box with trace information, to help the debugging process. Ideally, these messages would be suppressable with some sort of "debug mode off" preprocessing directive.

This sounds like a Microsoft system problem, not a Zillions one. The Zillions compiler does show the line# with the error, and displays the line. You can stop the compile process by putting in a deliberate syntax error, as Zillions compiles in a completely sequential fashion.

Since lots of code often looks similar,
Zillions should at least show not only the current line, but also two or three lines afterwards.

That has been critizised before, but never picked up by the Zillions developers.

Also, I found the line number of code is of no use when submacros are used, which is normally the case.
