I'd like to see "(print [message])" and "(status [message])" commands. 'print' would add the message to the Moves List, and 'status' would display it in the status line at the bottom of the window.

Besides saying things like "Check!", this would be very helpful in debugging rules files. For instance, you could print a position and its position-attribute each time it was set during move generation.

You should provide a menu option to turn 'print' or 'status' messages on/off.

Still Missing! We have now V2.0 and still no message line in Zillions. It would be so much nice to be able to
create a basic dialog with the user, give him a hint why he lost etc.

I have missed such a feature quite a bit, too,
when creating games.

Messages are one of the most important features in human-machine interaction, but Zillions does not allow any text output! I had to turn all my texts into (100 times too) large bitmaps.

I have still hope that a new version of Zillions might deliver us the good news in this respect,
therefore I emphasize the desire here again for this feature!

You could create a message in the move list by naming neutral pieces with the desired phrases. Put a null on a dummy position and change-type it to these pieces. Just be sure that the pieces are not dummy.

This requires

- the player having the movelist open, which is usually a pretty ugly sight
- the player to read every move line
- the player to find the message between many other entries in the same row.
Well, the message could be at the start of the line, but then the suggested 'change-type' would have to be at a certain place of the move-block.
What if I want to put it out at another place??

Forthermore, there are no blanks allowed in piece names (one would have to use underscores).

Doesn't sound to me as a practical alternative.
Cheers, Kasrl

Blanks are allowed in the notation portion of the piece declaration.
