Either I'm using it wrong, or the "(notation ...)" command is broken.
When I add a command such as "(notation "P")" inside a "(piece ...)" definition, just the way the help file tells me to, Zillions just ignores it and displays the piece's name in the moves list anyway.
Since I can't get it work, I don't know whether "(notation "")" would display a blank piece name, surpress move display for that piece entirely, or display the piece's regular name.
I'd like "(notation "")" to surpress move display for that piece entirely, creating an equivalent to the "(dummy ...)" command, but for pieces instead of positions. Dummy positions don't show up in the moves list, and ""-notation pieces shouldn't show up in the moves list either (in my opinion). |

Currently "notation" works for select screens and in fact is used in the normal select screen. However, it is not implemented for other uses. This will be corrected in the next release (v1.2) of Zillions, which will fully support "notation".
Every piece's notation starts out as "" by default, which means there is no notation so use the "name" string. |

Jeff, tell us about v1.2 PLEASE.
Well, could you start to give us a preview of new features, bug fixes, new language keyword, new user interface shortcut, ...
Also, it might be important for game writer to know about compatibility (will they have to modify existing code). Should they start to avoid using this or this because it will be obsoleted...

I hope my suggestions aren't slowing the release of version 1.2 -- I'm eager to see it! I don't mind having some things deferred until a later release, if it means new releases come out more often!
When it does come out, many of these discussion messages will become obsolete. Either they should be moved to a "Dealt-with" category, or perhaps the management can add a note at the bottom of some of them describing how version 1.2 addresses whatever was under discussion. |
