Xiang Hex is a very promising idea, while Chinese Chess is so attractive, this could be something. But I believe that Zillions gets the piece-evaluation wrong. The Cannon is severly overestimated compared with the Chariot (Rook). The Elephant should probably have a higher value as well. Chinese Chess does not only depend on mobility of pieces. Although a piece is formally very weak, it fulfils an important blocking function, and as a screen for the Cannon. So I think the piece values must be tweaked, similar to how I have tweaked Chinese Chess. This made it much stronger than the standard implementation. /Mats http://www.zillionsofgames.com/cgi-bin/zilligames/submissions.cgi?do=show |
